Win weather, and you'll win the day.
Here are a few of my favorite weather spots from recent years, including some winter weather proof of brand spots. Promoting and winning weather is one of the most important jobs in local news and creative services. At WANE, we introduced the 15 Fury Alert Day as a way to communicate our commitment to alerting our viewers when severe weather threatens. The first spot is a proof of brand :30 that was produced after our very first 15 Fury Alert Day was declared. Another proof is framed as a "thank you" spot, where we took the entire team and got them out in the snow (hat tip to my news director for the suggestion), and had them thank first responders, plow crews, and everyone else who helped keep the city running. We also thanked viewers for their video and photo submissions, and as a way to encourage them to send in even more footage the next time.
The school delay spot is one of my favorites, and not just because it stars my son Gus - In this case, the market received a freak, early season snow storm. Since my kids were home from school on a snow day, I got the crew to pop over to capture Gus waiting for a bus that would never come. His "oh boy" reaction was genuine, and my favorite part of the whole day!
WANE 15 has been a long-time partner of the Fort Wayne Tincaps baseball team. We leveraged that partnership into a weather testimonial with their head groundskeeper. My initial treatment was a bit more "Caddyshack," but after meeting Keith, it was apparent that he took his job (and the weather) very seriously.
